It begins in 1944 when Ruby appears in town as a toddler. At the age of 12, Ruby learns that her biological family lives on the top of Yonder Mountain, so she goes to visit them. Will she choose her biological family or the family she chose in town?  Ruth White (1942-2017) was born and raised in Whitewood, in Buchannan County - the Virginia county that adjoins both West Virginia and Kentucky. She is the author of more than a dozen impressive youth novels, including Belle Prather's Boy which was a Newbery Honor Book in 1997
