Clinton High School in Clinton, Tennessee, the next county seat north of Knoxville, is considered the first Southern town to integrate its schools. Racists held huge rallies to protest integration. I witnessed one of them because my mom was serving jury duty at the court house, and my dad and sister and I came to  pick her up. Later, mobs attacked the first Black kids to arrive at the school. Then the school was bombed into rubble. Margaret Anderson was the guidance counselor at Clinton High School and was at the center of it all. Full disclosure - my mom was an acquaintance of Margaret Anderson.
