This is the first book of poetry that Danny (as his friends, including me, called him) published. It was in 1976, way before most of his books came out two or three decades later. Danny (1940-2021) was clearly one of Tennessee's most distinguished poets of the 35 years he was actively publishing. He received the first Tennessee Arts Fellowship in Poetry and many other honors. He grew up amidst an extended family in Rogersville, Tennessee, and had a close relationship with the Holston River nearby where he had a cabin on the river. He taught at nearby Carson-Newman College and founded their Appalachian Center.
