Each of the sixteen chapters of this book highlights a contemporary mountain person (or in one case two sisters) who exemplify the old-fashioned mountain ways. They all live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Photographs flesh out the words in each chapter. Lynn Coffey, the author, moved to a home near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Augusta County, Virginia,in 1980. The next year she began publishing a periodical called Backroads featuring stories about mountain people who followed the old ways. After ceasing publication of Backroads in 2006, she began publishing books that celebrate and document tradtiional mountain lifestyles. This is her fifth book.
