Dr. Ron Eller is one of the pillars of the Appalachian Studies Community. He directed the Appalachian Studies Programs at the University of Kentucky for several decades and is now retired. This book, which covers the crucial half-century between 1880 and 1930, is the definitive economic history of our region during that period. Later he published The Uneven Ground which follows the economic history of our regions following this period.
