Back in the 1970s Si Kahn and his wife and kids settled into a small farm up a holler in Fannin County, Georgia, near the North Carolina state line. One of the kids in that holler that his boys played with was a little girl named Blossom. My late wife and I decided as soon as we met her on a visit with Si's family that we would name our next girl that, and we did. The experience of living there made a big impression on Si as did his work with the Brookside Strike in Harlan County and many other struggles in Appalachia and beyond. He now lives in Charlotte and has a huge reputation as a folk singer, but this book brings together the insights he has learned from his own experiences and those of many comrades. '
