Crystal E. Wilkinson is one of Appalachia's leading contemporary authors, the recipient of the Ernest Gains Award and in demand as a speaker. She teaches at the University of Kentucky. This collection of short stories is set in a community reminiscent of Indian Creek in the hills of Casey County where Wilkinson was raised by her grandparents as part of the last remaining African-American family in what had been a larger Black community there.
