Earl Hamner, the beloved creator of The Waltons, died in March of 2016 at the age of 93, but his spirit lives on.  He was born and raised in Nelson County, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The books which he wrote and formed the basis for The Waltons TV series are seldom seen but deeply cherished. My late wife, Connie, and I took Earl Hamner to Pine Mountain Settlement School - the topic of the first radio program he created, but a place he had never visited and Connie knew well from her years teaching there. Then we took him to the Newport Aquarium on the way to the Cincinnati Airport to fly back to California. He obtained a home on the Pacific Ocean before the coast was regulated, and he loved fish. "Generous Women is about the women who have given so much of themselves to the man I am today," he wrote in explaining why he wrote this book.
