Darnell Arnoult knows Appalachia inside and out. She has worked as a house cleaner and been a single mother. She has seen her home burn to the ground, her husband face severe health challenges, has lived in poverty, and also found triumph amid tragedy. For years she was known as "The Mary Kay of Appalachian literature," willing to go anywhere to lead a creative writing workshop. Now she directs the creative writing program at Lincoln Memorial University and one of the most effective and heart-warming writing workshops there - the Mountain Heritage Literary Festival. This is her only published novel. It takes place from one Easter season to the next in two neighboring Appalachian towns. Despite being essentially secular, it does have a theme of personal transformation and redemption.
