Although this book was published in 1977, many would argue that traditional mountain people have not previously or subsequently been portrayed as accurately, as humorously, and as vividly as Gurney Norman does in this story collection. I have never gotten such a kick out of a story and laughed so hard as I did reading the last story in this book, "A Correspondence" between siblings, one of whom chose to stay in the mountains and the other to move to Phoenix. For some, this hardback edition will be especially endearing because it has the original text with the "f" word twice on page 30. The later paperback edition changed that to the "s" word.
