True, Sharyn McCrumb is primarily a novelist, and one of the best-selling and most distinguished novelists of Appalachian literature, but she is also an awesome short story writer. A short story I accepted for publication in Appalachian Heritage when I was editor there, I also chose as one of a handful of stories for the 40th anniversary edition I created to celebrate the very best we had published over our entire history.
