Vic Depta grew up on Buffalo Creek - yes the Buffalo Creek in Logan County, West Virginia, that was devastated when a coal company slag heap dam burst on February 26, 1972, killing 125 people, injuring 1,121 people, and leaving over 4000 homeless. Depta is now retired and living in Frankfort, Kentucky, after a distinguished career as a professor at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He owns the Blair Mountain Press. He is the author of many poetry books.
