This book was first published in 1925 by Harvard University Press. It is one of a handful of important early folk-song collections from our region. When I first got into being a dealer in out-of-print books about Appalachia, this is one of the first books whose importance made it crucial to look for. I actually found one in a bookstore in San Francisco once. It was one of those bookstores with high ceilings an a ladder to reach the tallest shelves. I scampered right up that ladder as soon as I spotted it. Despite it being reprinted in 2013, first editions still run in three figures.
