John Fox, Jr. (1862-1919) grew up in Bourbon County in the Kentucky bluegrass where his father taught at a rural school he had established. John Fox, Jr.'s brother went into the coal business, and John Fox, Jr., followed him first to the Jellico, Tennessee, area, and then to Big Stone Gap, Virginia. His books, The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come and The Trail of the Lonesome Pine were the first best-sellers set in our region. This is a book of essays that contrasts life in the Kentucky mountains with life in the Bluegrass. It is an example of a book that has decreased in value in the 40 years I've been selling regional books.  A very attractive book - see my description below.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1901. 294 pages with a tissue-guarded full-page frontispiece illustration and nineteen other full-page illustrative plates. Top edge gilt. Front edge uncut. Hardback with pictorial cover.
