Many, myself included, consider that no place of greater bucolic and pastoral beauty exists than Cades Cove in the northwestern sector of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. When the Park was established in 1932, farmers in the Cove were allowed to live out their lives there. When I was a kid, those beautiful working farms surrounded by magnificent mountains made a life-long positive impression on me. This book is the only scholarly history of Cades Cove and sold more than any other University of Tennessee history books. The author, Durwood Dunn (1943-2014) claimed descent from Cades Cove farmers, but grew up near Chattanooga where his father was the Superintendent of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. He received all his post-secondary education at the University of Tennessee, including a PhD in History and taught at Tennessee Wesleyan University. He was the author of four books.

Knoxville: The University of Tennessee Press, the 9th paperback printing, 2002, of a 1988 release. 319 pages with an Index, Bibliography, Notes, and photos. Trade paperback.
