Moon pies have been made daily at the Chattanooga Bakery since April 29, 1917. This book tells the story of the company and the legend. The founder of the company, Earl Mitchell, asked a Kentucky coal miner what snack he would like, and the miner replied something with graham cracker and marshmallow and added he wanted it to be "as big as the moon. Since RC Colas were a popular drink in the same area as moon pies, the combination has been celebrated in two songs: "Gimme an RC Cola and a Moon Pie" by Big Bill Lester in the 1950s, and "An RC Cola and a Moon Pie" by NRBQ in 1973.
