Dr. Steve Byrum, a native of Athens, Tennessee, received his doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee. He worked as a professor and Dean for decades and is the author of 40 books on topics including primarily history and religion. This is an outstanding church history that illuminates the history of the Athens Baptist Church in the context of the history of McMinn County and surroundings as well as the heritage of not only the Baptist denomination, but of Protestantism in general - Byrum is also the author of a history of a Methodist District and a particular Methodist church.
