Phyllis Reynolds Naylor (b. 1933) has written over 130 books and 2000 articles! This book is one of two follow-ups from her fabulously successful Shiloh book which won a Newbery and still is quite popular. She was thirty when she graduated from college, and in 1960 she married her second husband, Rex Naylor, a West Virginian and a speech pathologist who she had met at church. Many of her youth novels and children's books are set in West Virginia a state she came to love while visiting her in-laws there.
