The first chapter of this book actually covers the time period, 1880-1914, while the other three chapters stick to the years of the sub-title, between World War I and the Great Depression. 24 tables provide a data-driven picture of the subject, and 29 interviews with people who experienced the changes of this time period assure a human touch to the numbers. The result is a deep perspective based on primary sources.The author, Joe William Trotter, Jr., was in the Carnegie-Mellon History Department.
